Bottom ash: high load bearing building material

A solid foundation and a good road surface are crucial for road users. Bottom ash is a reliable material that is frequently applied to obtain a road foundation with sufficient stability and little setting. This is how road construction engineers prevent cracks and potholes in the road surface. In addition, this product has various other applications. Bottom ash is a logical choice for projects that require high load bearing: it is lightweight, inert and environmentally friendly!

"Bottom ash is incombustible and has a high insulation value."

Bottom ash, or furnace bottom ash, is formed as a result of the melting and sintering of ash particles in the boiler of pulverized coal-fired power stations. Due to the way its formed, bottom ash has a low density. This makes it an attractive material for applications in civil engineering.

Bottom ash complies with NEN-EN 13055-2 and the accompanying Dutch interpretation NEN 3813 for use as lightweight aggregates for unbound and bound application. Vliegasunie delivers bottom ash from the various stations under KOMO® and CE-certification.

For the safe use of bottom ash, a safety information sheet has been written.
